Current students are at various levels of program completion. Some are taking basic, required coursework, others more advanced/specialized electives, and others are developing or completing their dissertation research. Many students are also employed by the Department as teaching or research assistants, earning a stipend and tuition waiver. Some students are concurrently participating in a research fellowship program that provide training and experience in a particular area of research (for example: pharmacoeconomics, pharmacoepidemiology, medication adherence) and is conducted in collaboration with as are pharmaceutical company (see Fellowships).

Besides taking courses, current students are working with faculty on independent research projects, giving presentations and seminars about their research, and have the opportunity to teach pharmacy students. Current student are involved in networking with students in other program on the UIC campus as well as at other universities. They also have many opportunities to meet and interact with distinguished guest who visit the Department – including faculty from other university, individuals from pharmaceutical companies and consulting organizations, and many others.

Current students have many opportunities to attend local, regional, national, and international professional association meetings where they present their own research, network with others, learn about employment opportunities and have fun.
